Resources and Other Information

The following information should be helpful to states as they consider options for accessible voting equipment.

Accessibility Summary

Voting Systems Summaries - Critical Feature Analysis

ATAP has been actively involved in development of the new accessibility standards for voting equipment. ATAP provided invited testimony to both the Technical Guidelines Development Committee and the Election Assistance Commission and submitted numerous written comments during development of the draft Voluntary Voting Systems Guidelines. These Guidelines are currently under review by the Election Assistance Commission and final standards are expected soon.

  • This table provides data on system conformance to the accessibility requirements of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) standards of 2002 and selected accessibility provisions of the current draft of the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) of 2005. Data is provided for nine of the most commonly used voting systems currently available on the market.

Comparison of FEC 2002 and VVSG 2005 Accessibility Standards - This narrative formed the basis for ATAP testimony to the EAC requesting that the VVSG not reduce the level of accessibility ensured by the FEC 2002 access standards. The table provides an analysis of the FEC 2002 Accessibility Standards as compared to the proposed VVSG 2005 requirements by disability type describing those areas in which the level of accessibility will be improved, maintained or decreased by the VVSG requirements.
